To all those who have paid their contribution for the 2020 year end trip, cheques will not be deposited and monies received will be reimbursed once things return to normal.

"As we close out week 8 of doing our part in Canada’s concentrated effort to fight the spread of COVID-19, I thought I would provide a Situation Update pertaining as it relates to the Cadet program and what will happen moving forward.

As you know, all cadet activities, including local training, have been suspended since 13 March 2020, and this, as a direct result of the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. Since then, we have been abiding by orders to physically distance, and to stay home.

On 15 April 2020, BGEN Cochrane, the Commander of the National Cadet and Junior Canadian Rangers Support Group, made the decision to extend the cancellation of ALL IN-PERSON CADET ACTIVITIES until 31 August 2020. Which means there won’t be any activities until September, which includes summer training.

This is not an easy decision. I understand many of you will be disappointed with this news. The decision was made to ensure the safety and security of all who participate in the cadet program; and ensure the cadet program doesn’t become a vector to spread COVID-19.

With regards to the current training year, the directive is that every cadet will have their training qualification mark as complete.

742 Squadron is still committed to keep cadets engaged through other means while practicing social distancing. Moving forward – you’ll see more challenges, and e-learning opportunities as we adapt to make the most of our the current situation. In fact we have an Q&A with the Chief that is coming your way soon!

The safety and welfare of our cadets, staff, their family, as well as, that of all Canadians have been our top priority since the beginning and this shall not change. Everyone has a part to play.

As Martin Luther King Jr. said: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy”. This iconic quote resonates perfectly at this moment in time as we are all challenged to be our best selves. In light of that, I encourage everyone to stay positive! 742 Squadron will be active on our website and reaching out to you through social media platforms as we all get through this together.

In the meantime - Be active, watch a funny video, look after one another – always while practice physical distancing; take advantage of found times; practice random acts of kindness; send gifts in the mail, and remember… better days lie ahead.

Make sure to join us as we make history once again by hosting our first-ever Virtual Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) on May 31, 2020.

On behalf of my staff, the squadron sponsoring committee and Myself – stay home. stay safe. stay healthy." - Maj Sandy Element
